Our Product Designs

In addition to repairs, we also offer our own products handmade right here in Colorado. Our products are currently available directly from us. And yes, international shipping is available - just send us a message!

In addition to pre-made items, we also create custom creations from our curated fabric collection. Our fabrics can be turned into bandanas, curtains, tablerunners, bags, you name it! We also sell fabrics by the yard.

Bandanas

Bandanas are one of our favorite accessories for hiking, camping, and even just daily life! The majority of our fabric offerings are made of premium cotton, woven and printed in Japan. There are also other materials available, including New Zealand merino wool, stretch fabrics, and batiks from India.

Compression Straps

Our compression straps are available in standard sizes and custom lengths to cinch down anything you want!

Sleep Sacks

We love camping year-round, but in the summer a sleeping bag is too much. Using a flat sheet often means getting tangled up and laying directly on a sleeping pad. To solve these problems we started making sleep sacks from a variety of comfortable, breathable materials, including stretchy rayon blends, merino wool, polyester fleece, and Tencel/Lyocell fabrics.

See Our Craftsmanship

Every element in our sewing studio is carefully chosen to create the highest quality workmanship for you and your gear. Whether we're repairing a backpack, sewing a bandana, or revitalizing an heirloom, you can be sure we take the utmost care in all we do.

Who Are We?

A grainy, black-and-white image of the owner's Italian immigrant grandfather.

Our Company - Matty's Story

This is my maternal great-grandfather, whom I never met. The photo is from the textbook The Geography of New York. He was a Sicilian immigrant, who had been an esteemed tailor in Sicily. After immigration, he worked as a sewist at the Hickey-Freeman suit factory in Rochester, NY, which is still in business today in the same building.

My maternal grandmother was a home sewist, and I have her 1939 Singer Featherweight (221) that I continue to use now, almost 90 years after its production. My paternal great-great-grandmother was a hand sewist, and repurposed "flour sack" material into both garments and quilts in the 1930s and 1940s, which are featured in the Gallery photos above.

I started sewing professionally in 2014, offering only compression straps, on consignment, at Wilderness Exchange in Denver, Colorado. A few years later, in 2017, I had moved to Asheville, North Carolina and expanded my product offerings to bandanas under the name Blue Ridge Fabric Works. Today, Local Gear Repair is a Denver-based sewing and mending company that is dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality service to the local community and beyond.

With years of experience and hundreds of repairs undertaken, I take pride in delivering excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail in every project I undertake. Whether it's repairing a torn tent or altering a pair of ski pants to fit perfectly, I am committed to meeting my customers' needs and exceeding their expectations.

At Local Gear Repair, we believe in the power of a well-maintained gear closet and are passionate about helping you adventure at your best. Trust us with your sewing and mending needs, and experience the difference of working with a company that truly cares.
